Dale,
I am enjoying your La Mirada class and learning the finer techniques of San Soo. As you know I studied under two other masters before and by far your training and insight is superior. I encourage anyone to train under you!
Response: January, 29th 2009 at 2:16PM
Hey Raul,
You are coming along nicely in your training. The staff form looks good and all you need to do is get past this last fancy spinning section and you are good to go.
Thanks for the recommendation, it's means a lot coming from you as you have studied San Soo from two 1st generation masters before landing at my studio/classes in La Mirada.

I am looking for a Kung Fu San Soo Master in the Atlanta, GA area. Any assistance you can give me with be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Jonathan
Response: December, 25th 2008 at 10:32AM
Hello Jonathan,
We know of no San Soo instructors in that area that we could recommend.
You could buy the Basic 45 DVD set from www.sansookungfu.com and then find a partner to train with but you really need a good instructor to learn Kung Fu San Soo correctly.

Hello Dale,
I would like to discuss more the concept of angles of punching, and proper absorbing/reacting to these punches. Very good info you showed me.
Thanks,
Dave
Response: November, 26th 2008 at 2:55AM
Hello Dave,
I can tell you one thing about reacting to your partners strikes. If they hit you with a real full body San Soo strike and you stand there and try to play superman you are going to lose that battle. Now I know you may think hey I've taken some hard strikes/punches over the years and they did not damage me, but those were coming from folks who only knew how to hit with their arms and probably did not use much else. Those upper body only strikes/punches may be painful but a real full body punch will damage you externally and internally.
By full body I mean a strike/punch that starts at the feet and moves through the legs as you press/drive into a horse and moves through the hips as they rotate and then up through the body and out through your rotating shoulders then finally issued through your arm and hand. Well this type of strike/punch will hurt you if you stand there and try to superman it. You will get damaged externally and internally. So to take that type of punch you better know how to sense it... then move with it... and finally absorb it.
I learned how to do this by studying the Basic 45 (or Ah Soo) many years ago and perfected it through many more years of studying San Soo. When I first started learning the Basic 45 (or Ah Soo) we worked out hard and fast and to survive you had to learn how to move with the strike and react with proper responses. If you did not then your were peeing blood the next day or worse... you ended up peeing blood and had some broken bones also.
I tell you this not to impress you but to stress to you the importance of learning this important concept. To do this actually involves a lot of different concepts. Too many to explain here. Next time we workout together I can start to go over some of the concepts which will enable you to handle a properly thrown full body San Soo strike/punch.

I trained with David Carter in the city of Whitter,Ca in the 1980s (San Soo)He was the most direct (in his method of figthing) sifu that i have known, he also trained with Jimmy Woo. I have also trained in La Habra and Bellflower and the training methods are alot different than what i learned in whittier, all my training in is San Soo kung fu, why are the training methods different as to practioners.
Thanks for time to hear me.
Richard
Response: September, 25th 2008 at 1:45AM
Hello Richard,
I am not sure I know what you mean by training methods. If you could elaborate on what training methods you did at Whittier as opposed to what you did when you were at the La Habra and Bellflower locations I could then possible answer this.
I hope you see this and I will email you too.

Master Dale,
You have a great site here. For many years I have learned so many things either training with you or watching you work out with someone else. Your class will grow and you will succeed because you have learned from the best and are one of the best.
For any student looking for real advanced concepts of Kung Su San Soo enroll in Master Dale's classes. If you are new to San Soo you will learn the right way from day one. If you have San Soo experience then Master Dale will help you break bad habits and teach you the right way.
Congratulations.

Master Garrison,
What is the difference in a "Hard Horse" stance and a "Soft Horse" stance? When does the "Softening" of a horse stance apply?
Thanks in advance,and Happy 4th
Response: July, 9th 2008 at 3:40AM
Dave,
Happy 4th of July right back at you!
As to the question, I will answer that later. If I give out too much free info then people will just go here and not come to my classes to learn.
But yes there is a very big difference between a hard and soft horse and even bigger reasons why you need to use them.
To find out more come to my classes at the La Mirada Community Resource Center. You can sign up here for the summer session that begins on 7/23/2008.

I'm new to martial arts and I need to find a place to study. What are your monthly rates?
Bill,
My classes cost $40.00 for 4 classes. The classes are held at the La Mirada Resource Center. You can sign up here for the summer session that begins on 7/23/2008.
Just so you know I teach Kung Fu San Soo with proper body mechanics that rely on using the whole body. We do not rely on incorrect, dummied down, big man kung fu. Big man kung fu is for people who can not grasp the advanced fighting concepts of Kung Fu San Soo.

It is a humbling experience to read all these positive comments. As an instructor of this art I am honored everyday that people come to me and ask me to teach them San Soo. I strive to teach this art to you the public in the hopes that you will become better then I and continue teaching the art of Kung Fu San Soo.
One note:
I teach Kung Fu San Soo as it was taught to my instructors. I do not dummy down my instruction and I teach complex and proper body mechanics that rely on using the whole body. We do not rely on incorrect, dummied down, big man kung fu.

Cesar it is a honor to have taught you and to train with you now.
You have shown me great respect by writing this. You are one of the few students/people who I have met in San Soo and life who understand that respecting others gets you respect in return.

Hello to everyone,
I just saw the movie Iron Man for fathers day and I have to say it rocked. Where do I get a suit like that? I was thinking if they had a outfit like that and put a San Soo trained fighter in it... well he could rock this world something good!!!
I recommend the movie to anyone who is a action movie freak. It's well worth the over inflated ticket price.

Dear sir;
I have studied another form of kung fu which uses animal movements in form and fighting, does your system of kung fu mimic any particular animals?
Response: June, 13th 2008 at 12:30AM
Jon,
Our system is based on human movements and not animals. Why... well it is because we are human and as such fight as humans. We do not have sharp claws, heavy fur or feathers all over our body and fags in our mouth.
As humans though we do have a vastly superior tool/weapon over our fellow mammals... we have an extremely complex brain that allows us to easily adapt to many different fighting scenarios.
Great question! I'm curious what kung fu system do you study?

Interesting website. I'm curious, do you offer group privates? I have a small group of folks that are interested in learning this style of kung fu.
Please contact me at the email address above.
Hello Jason,
Yes I do group privates. Actually that is the best bang for your buck if you have a group of 4 to 10 people. I will contact you regarding pricing.
Thanks for visiting my website.

Greetings Master Garrison,
Great web site, thanks for your efforts in bringing honor to and spreading the greatest martial art in the world, Master Woo's gift to us all, Kung Fu San Soo.
Good day Rick,
You can only place once URL per entry. So I edited out one of them!
If you wanted the other one then just add another entry and I will remove this one later.

Hey there, I'm looking for a San Soo
school that teaches kids under 16 years
old. Is your La Mirada class for kids?
Hello Dan,
My adult class is for ages 13 and up. I have one main requirement for students under 18 who workout in the adult class, they must be able to interact with adults in a mature manner to continue training in the adult class.
I am currently teaching via the La Mirada Resource Center and had to under go Federal and Local background checks via the finger printing system used by the police department.
Therefore, I am the only Kung Fu San Soo Master teaching in the area (Whittier, Norwalk, La Mirada, La Habra, La Palma, Cerritos, Buena Park, Brea, Bellflower, Artesia) that has passed these checks who is teaching children.
There may be other Kung Fu San Soo Masters teaching in the area but I doubt if they have gone through this process. So it is best to check with the local police department of any training center before letting your kids train there.
Regards,
Dale
